Compassion and the love for knitting/crocheting were combined by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo in 1998 to created the Prayer Shawl Ministry which is now celebrated in churches all over America.
Through this ministry, women of First Presbyterian Church of Avon Park reach out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy.

Knitting needles and crochet hooks busily click away and needles pulling thread to make shawls, lap robes, afghans and quilts to be distributed to shut-ins, those needing comfort and healing.

Each shawl, lap robe, afghan or quilt is blessed with the laying on of hands and prayer before it is delivered and presented with private prayer with the individual receiving it.
